Ephesians 4:13-15
"Until we all arrive at the oneness of the faith and of the full knowledge of the Son of God, at a full-grown man, at the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ That we may be no longer little children tossed by waves and carried about by every wind of teaching in the sleight of men, in craftiness with a view to a system of error, But holding to truth in love, we may grow up into Him in all things, who is the Head, Christ,"

A RESPONSE TO THE ARTICLE BY PATRICK SO 'MY CHANGE OF VIEWS TOWARD THE FAITH OF THE LOCAL CHURCH'
By Ittai Cheng and Daniel Hui
We are very grateful by the announcement expressed by Rev. So in 'Christian Times' (Issue No. 1108, Forum). Through the mutual communication, the improper argument toward the local churches and Witness Lee caused by inaccurate materials has now been clarified, and rather our views on the biblical inerrancy and the authority of the Bible were affirmed. There was also recognition of the other important points -- our view of the Triune God, the Lord Christ being both completely God and man, the second coming of Lord Christ, man, sin, and salvation -- and affirmation of the local churches being 'neither a heretical nor a radical sect, but are our brothers and sisters'; for these we offer worship to our God.
Before this, a conclusion was also made through the two years' dialogue between the renowned Fuller Theological Seminary of the United States and the local churches with its publisher, Living Stream Ministry:
'The teachings and practices of the local churches and its members represent the genuine, historical, biblical Christian faith in every essential aspect. ...This determination was made by reading their publications and through our fellowship in five face-to-face meetings between Fuller and representatives of these churches and this ministry. In regard to their teaching and testimony concerning God, the Trinity, the person and work of Christ, the Bible, salvation, and the oneness and unity of the Church, the Body of Christ, we found them to be unequivocally orthodox. Furthermore, we found their profession of faith to be consistent with the major creeds, even though their profession is not creedal in format.'
We thank God that in His arrangement, such dialogue as above was established, eliminating the unnecessary misunderstanding so as to receive one another, to testify the Lord Christ together, to preach the gospel, to hold up the biblical truths, and to glorify the true Triune God.
We would also like to take this opportunity to publicize our faith (details of content can be seen in the biblical truth literature, 'Affirmation and Critique', - website -):
Our Faith
1. We believe that the Holy Bible is the complete divine revelation verbally inspired by the Holy Spirit.
2. We believe that God is the only one Triune God - the Father, the Son, and the Spirit - co-existing equally from eternity to eternity.
3. We believe that the Son of God, even God Himself, became incarnated to be a man by the name of Jesus, born of the virgin Mary, that He might be our Redeemer and Savior.
4. We believe that Jesus, a genuine man, lived on this earth for thirty-three and a half years to make God the Father known to men.
5. We believe that Jesus, the Christ anointed by God with His Holy Spirit, died on the cross for our sins and shed His blood for the accomplishment of our redemption.
6. We believe that Jesus Christ, after being buried for three days, resurrected from the dead physically and spiritually and that, in resurrection, He has become the life-giving Spirit to impart Himself into us as our life and our everything.
7. We believe that after His resurrection Christ ascended to the heavens and that God has made Him the Lord of all.
8. We believe that after His ascension Christ poured down the Spirit of God to baptize His chosen members into one Body and that the Spirit of God, who is also the Spirit of Christ, is moving on this earth today to convict sinners, to regenerate God's chosen people, to dwell in the members of Christ for their growth in life, and to build up the Body of Christ for His full expression.
9. We believe that at the end of this age Christ will come back to take up His members, to judge the world, to take possession of the earth, and to establish His eternal kingdom.
10. We believe that the overcoming saints will reign with Christ in the millennium and that all the believers in Christ will participate in the divine blessings in the New Jerusalem in the new heaven and new earth for eternity.
As for the non-essential truths of the faith which Rev. So mentioned in the announcement, such as one church for one locality, teaching of multiple raptures, and the viewpoint toward the pastoral system, we will gladly discuss publicly with all the people using the Bible as the only standard with an open attitude. On the one hand, the truth becomes clearer after debating, and on the other hand, this will cause the people outside to have proper understanding toward the truths the local churches hold. In January 2007, the Taiwan Gospel Book Room, Hong Kong Truth Book Room, and the Fuller Theological Seminary of the United States held effective seminars at the China Graduate School of Theology and the Hong Kong Baptist University on 'The Orthodoxy of the Chinese Church from a Historical, Theological and Apologetic perspective'. We hope that in the near future, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we will hold a symposium on the writings of Witness Lee. We welcome the brothers and sisters in the Lord to participate in the study and discussions.
We believe that the truths the Lord released through His servants Watchman Nee and Witness Lee in the local churches were affirmed through fair examination. In October of this year [2008] when the director of Christian Research Institute, Hank Hanegraaff, visited us, he emphasized again that he reckoned the orthodoxy of the faith of the local churches and that they have a special portion of riches that can be contributed to the churches on the whole earth today.
We thank again Rev. Patrick So for his sincerity in the contact with us and clarification toward us. We hope that this will hasten the harmony in the Lord that the Lord's name be glorified.
